Study Groups
To help busy IT professionals balance the demands of school, work, and family, students in the MSIT have found Study Groups to be an invaluable part of the program. Incoming students are "assigned" to study groups based on geographical preferences and a mix of technical and business backgrounds. Students are free to change groups during the program as the members' needs and skills require.
Study groups typically meet once a week to discuss class material and homework, prepare for tests, and work on group projects. Groups also provide opportunities for students to harness multiple points of view for handling work-related IT problems, as well as to develop skills for managing group dynamics.
Study groups:
• Provide structure for completing out-of-class work
• Promote mutual learning
• Support individual and team success
• Pool and leverage individual capabilities and perspectives
• Divide and distribute workload
Participation in study groups is optional, but most students find it to be one of the most valuable and rewarding aspects of the program, not only for the learning benefits but the personal and professional relationships that develop as a result.
